Alan Dunning arrived from the United Kingdom to Calgary (Alberta) in 1979. Since the early 1980s Dunning has exhibited work that investigates our relationship to the technologies of print media, using the computer as a tool to generate data fields. Since 1996 he has been exploring real-time interactive environments. Along with Paul Woodrow and Morley Hollenberg, he is a founding member of the Einstein’s Brain Project, which investigates ideas about consciousness, embodiment, and the reconstruction of the post-human body.
