Granular Synthesis

Biography

The Austrian group Granular Synthesis focuses on the interrelationship and transformation of image and sound elements in ways that are similar to the early audiovisual experiments in video. Their digitally constructed works deconstruct image and sound with algorithmic operations that create effects such as video noise, electronic feedback and still image. The difference lies in the digital mode of simulation, which allows higher intensity of compression and decompression of movements, a rapid increase and decrease of velocity, a high density of layers, and an endless repetition of the same sequences.
