Gordon Monahan is composer and sound artist based in Berlin (Germany) and Meaford (Ontario). Monahan has drawn from his studies in physics, piano and composition to produce works for loudspeakers, video, kinetic sculpture, piano, and computer-controlled sound environments. His juxtaposition of quantitative and qualitative aspects of natural acoustical phenomena with elements of media technology, environment, architecture, popular culture has made his work unique within the field of avant-garde music. Since 1978 he has created sound-based installations and performances for such prestigious venues as The Kitchen (New York, NY, U.S.), the Walker Art Centre (Minneapolis, MN, U.S.), Donaueschinger Musiktage (Donaueschinger, Germany) and the Sony Centre (Berlin, Germany).
